As we gather with our families in observance of Memorial Day to honor the men and women who have died serving in the US military, I have put together a short list of things to do while enjoying this upcoming holiday in Hampton Roads.
In Newport News, on May 25th through the 29th enjoy the Memorial Day Celebration at Victory Arch, sponsored by American Legion Braxton-Perkins Post #25. This annual ceremony is held at 11 a.m. at the Victory Arch, 25th Street & West Avenue, in downtown Newport News. After the ceremony, the public is invited learn about America`s rich military heritage at the Virginia War Museum. Visit the museum on Memorial Day and receive $1 off the admission price.
In Portsmouth, May 25, The Portsmouth Annual Memorial Day Parade. A Portsmouth tradition since 1884. Annually, the Memorial Day Parade salutes the service and sacrifices of the men and women of the United States Armed Forces and celebrates Portsmouth’s proud military heritage. This year’s parade will include floats, marching band units, armed forces units, lots of excitement and much more. In Virginia Beach on May 29th through the 31st, The Patriotic Festival: A Celebration of Our Military. The Patriotic Festival celebrates the military at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront for three days of National Touring Artists Concerts, along with Military Display & Demos and a three-day Oceanfront Air Show featuring The Blue Angels.
